1 καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ Ααρων λέγων 2 ἀνθρώπῳ ἐάν τινι γένηται ἐν δέρματι χρωτὸς αὐτοῦ οὐλὴ σημασίας τηλαυγὴς καὶ γένηται ἐν δέρματι χρωτὸς αὐτοῦ ἁφὴ λέπρας καὶ ἀχθήσεται πρὸς Ααρων τὸν ἱερέα ἢ ἕνα τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν ἱερέων 3 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφὴν ἐν δέρματι τοῦ χρωτὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ θρὶξ ἐν τῇ ἁφῇ μεταβάλῃ λευκή καὶ ἡ ὄψις τῆς ἁφῆς ταπεινὴ ἀπὸ τοῦ δέρματος τοῦ χρωτός ἁφὴ λέπρας ἐστίν καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτόν 4 ἐὰν δὲ τηλαυγὴς λευκὴ ᾖ ἐν τῷ δέρματι τοῦ χρωτός καὶ ταπεινὴ μὴ ᾖ ἡ ὄψις αὐτῆς ἀπὸ τοῦ δέρματος καὶ ἡ θρὶξ αὐτοῦ οὐ μετέβαλεν τρίχα λευκήν αὐτὴ δέ ἐστιν ἀμαυρά καὶ ἀφοριεῖ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφὴν ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας 5 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφὴν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ ἁφὴ μένει ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ οὐ μετέπεσεν ἡ ἁφὴ ἐν τῷ δέρματι καὶ ἀφοριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας τὸ δεύτερον 6 καὶ ὄψεται αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ τὸ δεύτερον καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀμαυρὰ ἡ ἁφή οὐ μετέπεσεν ἡ ἁφὴ ἐν τῷ δέρματι καθαριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς σημασία γάρ ἐστιν καὶ πλυνάμενος τὰ ἱμάτια καθαρὸς ἔσται 7 ἐὰν δὲ μεταβαλοῦσα μεταπέσῃ ἡ σημασία ἐν τῷ δέρματι μετὰ τὸ ἰδεῖν αὐτὸν τὸν ἱερέα τοῦ καθαρίσαι αὐτόν καὶ ὀφθήσεται τὸ δεύτερον τῷ ἱερεῖ 8 καὶ ὄψεται αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ μετέπεσεν ἡ σημασία ἐν τῷ δέρματι καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς λέπρα ἐστίν | 1 This, too, the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 2 If there should appear on anyone’s skin, the change of colour or the scab or the shiny patches that betoken the scourge of leprosy, he must be brought before the high priest Aaron, or one of his sons. 3 If the priest, looking at the place on his skin, finds that the hairs have turned white, and the skin of the part affected seems shrunken compared with the rest of the skin round it, this is the scourge of leprosy; and when the priest so pronounces, the man must be segregated from his fellows. 4 If the skin is marked by a shiny white patch, but is not shrunken, and the hairs have kept their colour, the priest will keep him shut away for a week, 5 and on the seventh day examine him. If, by now, the infection has not grown worse or spread, he will shut him away for a week more. 6 And now, if he finds on the seventh day that the infection is less marked, and has not spread further in the skin, he will declare the man clean; it is only a scab, and he will be clean once he has washed his garments. 7 If the infection begins to grow worse, after he has been examined and pronounced clean, he must be brought back to the priest, 8 and pronounced unclean after all. |
9 καὶ ἁφὴ λέπρας ἐὰν γένηται ἐν ἀνθρώπῳ καὶ ἥξει πρὸς τὸν ἱερέα 10 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐλὴ λευκὴ ἐν τῷ δέρματι καὶ αὕτη μετέβαλεν τρίχα λευκήν καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑγιοῦς τῆς σαρκὸς τῆς ζώσης ἐν τῇ οὐλῇ 11 λέπρα παλαιουμένη ἐστίν ἐν τῷ δέρματι τοῦ χρωτός ἐστιν καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἀφοριεῖ αὐτόν ὅτι ἀκάθαρτός ἐστιν 12 ἐὰν δὲ ἐξανθοῦσα ἐξανθήσῃ ἡ λέπρα ἐν τῷ δέρματι καὶ καλύψῃ ἡ λέπρα πᾶν τὸ δέρμα τῆς ἁφῆς ἀπὸ κεφαλῆς ἕως ποδῶν κα{Q'} ὅλην τὴν ὅρασιν τοῦ ἱερέως 13 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐκάλυψεν ἡ λέπρα πᾶν τὸ δέρμα τοῦ χρωτός καὶ καθαριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφήν ὅτι πᾶν μετέβαλεν λευκόν καθαρόν ἐστιν 14 καὶ ᾗ ἂν ἡμέρᾳ ὀφθῇ ἐν αὐτῷ χρὼς ζῶν μιανθήσεται 15 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸν χρῶτα τὸν ὑγιῆ καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ χρὼς ὁ ὑγιής ὅτι ἀκάθαρτός ἐστιν λέπρα ἐστίν 16 ἐὰν δὲ ἀποκαταστῇ ὁ χρὼς ὁ ὑγιὴς καὶ μεταβάλῃ λευκή καὶ ἐλεύσεται πρὸς τὸν ἱερέα 17 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ μετέβαλεν ἡ ἁφὴ εἰς τὸ λευκόν καὶ καθαριεῖ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφήν καθαρός ἐστιν | 9 When a man is brought to the priest bearing the marks of infection, 10 and he, upon examination, finds a white swelling that has turned the hair white, and shews the raw, live flesh, 11 then it must be pronounced leprosy inveterate, deeply rooted in the skin, and the priest must pronounce him unclean without being at pains to shut him away; his uncleanness is manifest. 12 But if the infection has broken out all over his skin, covering it from head to foot, wherever it is observed, 13 the priest who examines him will decide that his infection is no defilement; when it shews white all over him, he is to be declared clean. 14 But whenever the raw flesh shews, 15 the priest will declare him contaminated, and he is to be reckoned unclean; the raw flesh betokens leprosy and uncleanness. 16 If, afterwards, the skin turns white all over his body, 17 the priest, examining him again, will pronounce him clean. |
18 καὶ σὰρξ ἐὰν γένηται ἐν τῷ δέρματι αὐτοῦ ἕλκος καὶ ὑγιασθῇ 19 καὶ γένηται ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τοῦ ἕλκους οὐλὴ λευκὴ ἢ τηλαυγὴς λευκαίνουσα ἢ πυρρίζουσα καὶ ὀφθήσεται τῷ ἱερεῖ 20 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ ὄψις ταπεινοτέρα τοῦ δέρματος καὶ ἡ θρὶξ αὐτῆς μετέβαλεν εἰς λευκήν καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς λέπρα ἐστίν ἐν τῷ ἕλκει ἐξήνθησεν 21 ἐὰν δὲ ἴδῃ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῷ θρὶξ λευκή καὶ ταπεινὸν μὴ ᾖ ἀπὸ τοῦ δέρματος τοῦ χρωτός καὶ αὐτὴ ᾖ ἀμαυρά ἀφοριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας 22 ἐὰν δὲ διαχέηται ἐν τῷ δέρματι καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς ἁφὴ λέπρας ἐστίν ἐν τῷ ἕλκει ἐξήνθησεν 23 ἐὰν δὲ κατὰ χώραν μείνῃ τὸ τηλαύγημα καὶ μὴ διαχέηται οὐλὴ τοῦ ἕλκους ἐστίν καὶ καθαριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς | 18 When an ulcer formed in flesh or skin heals up 19 and leaves a white or reddish scar behind it, the man so marked must be taken to the priest; 20 and if the priest sees that this part of the skin has shrunk compared with the rest, and the hairs have turned white, he will pronounce him defiled; the scourge of leprosy has broken out in the ulcer. 21 But if the hair keeps its old colour, and the scar is dark, and there is no shrinking of the skin, he will shut the man away for a week; 22 and then, if it has spread, he will declare him a leper, 23 but if it is still confined to the same spot, it is but the scar of the ulcer, and the man is clean. |
24 καὶ σὰρξ ἐὰν γένηται ἐν τῷ δέρματι αὐτοῦ κατάκαυμα πυρός καὶ γένηται ἐν τῷ δέρματι αὐτοῦ τὸ ὑγιασθὲν τοῦ κατακαύματος αὐγάζον τηλαυγὲς λευκὸν ὑποπυρρίζον ἢ ἔκλευκον 25 καὶ ὄψεται αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ μετέβαλεν θρὶξ λευκὴ εἰς τὸ αὐγάζον καὶ ἡ ὄψις αὐτοῦ ταπεινὴ ἀπὸ τοῦ δέρματος λέπρα ἐστίν ἐν τῷ κατακαύματι ἐξήνθησεν καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς ἁφὴ λέπρας ἐστίν 26 ἐὰν δὲ ἴδῃ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν τῷ αὐγάζοντι θρὶξ λευκή καὶ ταπεινὸν μὴ ᾖ ἀπὸ τοῦ δέρματος αὐτὸ δὲ ἀμαυρόν καὶ ἀφοριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας 27 καὶ ὄψεται αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἐὰν δὲ διαχύσει διαχέηται ἐν τῷ δέρματι καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς ἁφὴ λέπρας ἐστίν ἐν τῷ ἕλκει ἐξήνθησεν 28 ἐὰν δὲ κατὰ χώραν μείνῃ τὸ αὐγάζον καὶ μὴ διαχυθῇ ἐν τῷ δέρματι αὐτὴ δὲ ᾖ ἀμαυρά ἡ οὐλὴ τοῦ κατακαύματός ἐστιν καὶ καθαριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς ὁ γὰρ χαρακτὴρ τοῦ κατακαύματός ἐστιν | 24 So, too, if flesh and skin that have been injured by a burn shew a white or reddish scar, 25 and the priest who examines it finds that it has turned the hair white and is shrunken, he will declare such a man unclean; leprosy has broken out in the burn. 26 But if the hair has kept its colour and there is no shrinking, and the look of the place itself is dark, he will shut the man away for a week, 27 and if in that time he finds that infection has spread in the skin, he will pronounce the man unclean; 28 but if the whiteness has not spread, and shews less plain, the burn is the cause of it, and the man is clean; it is only the scar of a burn. |
29 καὶ ἀνδρὶ καὶ γυναικὶ ἐὰν γένηται ἐν αὐτοῖς ἁφὴ λέπρας ἐν τῇ κεφαλῇ ἢ ἐν τῷ πώγωνι 30 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφὴν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ ὄψις αὐτῆς ἐγκοιλοτέρα τοῦ δέρματος ἐν αὐτῇ δὲ θρὶξ ξανθίζουσα λεπτή καὶ μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς θραῦσμά ἐστιν λέπρα τῆς κεφαλῆς ἢ λέπρα τοῦ πώγωνός ἐστιν 31 καὶ ἐὰν ἴδῃ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφὴν τοῦ θραύσματος καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐχ ἡ ὄψις ἐγκοιλοτέρα τοῦ δέρματος καὶ θρὶξ ξανθίζουσα οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ ἀφοριεῖ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφὴν τοῦ θραύσματος ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας 32 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν ἁφὴν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐ διεχύθη τὸ θραῦσμα καὶ θρὶξ ξανθίζουσα οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ ἡ ὄψις τοῦ θραύσματος οὐκ ἔστιν κοίλη ἀπὸ τοῦ δέρματος 33 καὶ ξυρηθήσεται τὸ δέρμα τὸ δὲ θραῦσμα οὐ ξυρηθήσεται καὶ ἀφοριεῖ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ θραῦσμα ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας τὸ δεύτερον 34 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ θραῦσμα τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐ διεχύθη τὸ θραῦσμα ἐν τῷ δέρματι μετὰ τὸ ξυρηθῆναι αὐτόν καὶ ἡ ὄψις τοῦ θραύσματος οὐκ ἔστιν κοίλη ἀπὸ τοῦ δέρματος καὶ καθαριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς καὶ πλυνάμενος τὰ ἱμάτια καθαρὸς ἔσται 35 ἐὰν δὲ διαχύσει διαχέηται τὸ θραῦσμα ἐν τῷ δέρματι μετὰ τὸ καθαρισθῆναι αὐτόν 36 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ διακέχυται τὸ θραῦσμα ἐν τῷ δέρματι οὐκ ἐπισκέψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς περὶ τῆς τριχὸς τῆς ξανθῆς ὅτι ἀκάθαρτός ἐστιν 37 ἐὰν δὲ ἐνώπιον μείνῃ τὸ θραῦσμα ἐπὶ χώρας καὶ θρὶξ μέλαινα ἀνατείλῃ ἐν αὐτῷ ὑγίακεν τὸ θραῦσμα καθαρός ἐστιν καὶ καθαριεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς | 29 Man or woman suffering from an infection of the head or chin must be examined by the priest, 30 and if the skin has shrunk and the hair gone yellow and thinner than it was, they must be pronounced unclean; there is leprosy in the head or beard. 31 But if he finds the skin level and the hair still dark, they must be shut away for a week, 32 and if he finds that the disfigurement has not spread, and the hair keeps its colour, and the skin is level, 33 the hair must be shaved all round the infected part. For a week more they must be shut away, 34 and if then he finds that the infection is confined to the same spot, and there is no shrinking of the skin, he will declare them clean, and they will be free from defilement when their clothes have been washed. 35 If, after they have been pronounced clean, the infection spreads in the skin, 36 he need not look to see whether the hair has gone yellow; the uncleanness is manifest. 37 But if the infection remains where it was, and the hair is black, he may be sure that the man is healed, and pronounce him clean without scruple. |
38 καὶ ἀνδρὶ ἢ γυναικὶ ἐὰν γένηται ἐν δέρματι τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ αὐγάσματα αὐγάζοντα λευκαθίζοντα 39 καὶ ὄψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐν δέρματι τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ αὐγάσματα αὐγάζοντα λευκαθίζοντα ἀλφός ἐστιν καθαρός ἐστιν ἐξανθεῖ ἐν τῷ δέρματι τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ καθαρός ἐστιν | 38 When whiteness appears on the skin of man or woman, 39 and the priest, examining them, finds it is only a dull whiteness that shews there, he will recognize that it is not leprosy, but ring-worm, and the man or woman is clean. | 38 Vir, sive mulier, in cujus cute candor apparuerit, 39 intuebitur eos sacerdos. |
40 ἐὰν δέ τινι μαδήσῃ ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ φαλακρός ἐστιν καθαρός ἐστιν 41 ἐὰν δὲ κατὰ πρόσωπον μαδήσῃ ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ ἀναφάλαντός ἐστιν καθαρός ἐστιν 42 ἐὰν δὲ γένηται ἐν τῷ φαλακρώματι αὐτοῦ ἢ ἐν τῷ ἀναφαλαντώματι αὐτοῦ ἁφὴ λευκὴ ἢ πυρρίζουσα λέπρα ἐστὶν ἐν τῷ φαλακρώματι αὐτοῦ ἢ ἐν τῷ ἀναφαλαντώματι αὐτοῦ 43 καὶ ὄψεται αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ ὄψις τῆς ἁφῆς λευκὴ πυρρίζουσα ἐν τῷ φαλακρώματι αὐτοῦ ἢ ἐν τῷ ἀναφαλαντώματι αὐτοῦ ὡς εἶδος λέπρας ἐν δέρματι τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ | 40 A man may lose the hair on his crown, and still be clean; 41 may lose the hair on his forehead, and still be clean, despite his baldness. 42 But if in the bald patch on crown or forehead a white or reddish tinge is shewing, 43 the priest who finds it there will hold him unclean beyond all doubt; the bald patch is leprous. |
44 ἄνθρωπος λεπρός ἐστιν μιάνσει μιανεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ ἱερεύς ἐν τῇ κεφαλῇ αὐτοῦ ἡ ἁφὴ αὐτοῦ 45 καὶ ὁ λεπρός ἐν ᾧ ἐστιν ἡ ἁφή τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἔστω παραλελυμένα καὶ ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ ἀκατακάλυπτος καὶ περὶ τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ περιβαλέσθω καὶ ἀκάθαρτος κεκλήσεται 46 πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ὅσας ἂν ᾖ ἐ{P'} αὐτοῦ ἡ ἁφή ἀκάθαρτος ὢν ἀκάθαρτος ἔσται κεχωρισμένος καθήσεται ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς ἔσται αὐτοῦ ἡ διατριβή | 44 The man who is infected with leprosy, and segregated at the priest’s bidding, 45 must go with rent garments and bared head, his face veiled, crying out, Unclean, unclean. 46 And still, as long as he remains unclean through leprosy, he must dwell away from the camp, alone.
50 He will examine it, and shut it away for a week; 51 and if, looking at it again at the end of that time, he finds that the patch has spread, it is malignant leprosy; he will pronounce the garment, or whatever else is infected, unclean, 52 and it must be destroyed by fire accordingly. 53 But if he finds that the patch has not spread, 54 he will give orders for the infected thing to be washed, and so he will shut it away for a week more. 55 If it shews the same as before, although the patch may not have spread, he will pronounce it unclean and destroy it by fire, as a thing infected, whether outwardly or all through with leprosy. 56 But if the infected patch is less marked after the washing, he will cut it away and separate it from the rest. 57 And if, after that, patches begin to shew where all was once unspotted, it is leprosy spreading this way and that, and the thing must be burnt. 58 If, on the contrary, the infection ceases, the part that is left uncontaminated must be washed in water again, and now it is clean. 59 Such are the rules for pronouncing judgement of cleanness or uncleanness upon infection in any garment of wool or linen, its warp or its woof, as well as any piece of leather-work.[1] | 47 Vestis lanea sive linea, quæ lepram habuerit, 48 in stamine atque subtegmine, aut certe pellis, vel quidquid ex pelle confectum est, 49 si alba vel rufa macula fuerit infecta, lepra reputabitur, ostendeturque sacerdoti: 50 qui consideratam recludet septem diebus: 51 et die septimo rursus aspiciens, si deprehenderit crevisse, lepra perseverans est: pollutum judicabit vestimentum, et omne in quo fuerit inventa: 52 et idcirco comburetur flammis. |
[1] Throughout this chapter the Hebrew text, followed by the Latin version, uses the same word to express (i) infection doubtful in its nature and (ii) ascertained leprosy.
